Music and design are two worlds that constantly influence and complement each other. Heavy Weather explored this duality while creating the vinyl sleeve design for the first three singles released by the Sheffield-based psych-rock band Electric Tape Recorder.

The cover art leans into stark contrasts of heavy typography, distressed textures, and a single commanding image. Visually, the sleeves communicate with bold typographic hierarchy, the titling is purposeful, loud, and insistent. On the back cover, lyrics dominate the space and are purposely oversized and arranged akin to propaganda or bold declarations.

The colour palettes are stripped back, chosen for their historical associations with authority, violence, and passion. Paired with the distressed paper textures, the artwork hints at something unearthed, as though each sleeve had already lived a long life, folded and worn. The vinyl sleeve designs work not just as a container for the music but as an extension of it forming a visual system of refusal and insistence.
